Week One: Masterpiece

Text: Ephesians 2:1-10

Without Christ, there is something WRONG with you.

Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil – the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us when he raised Christ from the dead. It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved! (2:1-5)

With Christ, you are God’s MASTERPIECE.

For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (2:6-10)

As God’s Masterpiece…

1.     You are created for the master’s PURPOSE .

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous – how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life is recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. (Psalm 139:13-16)

2.     You have EVERYTHING you need to do EVERYTHING God wants you to do.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. (2 Peter 1:3)

3.     God uses ALL THINGS in your life to bring about His purpose.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28)

Here’s the key – if you don’t like yourself – Let God REMAKE you.

So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel. But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it unto a lump of clay again and started over. (Jeremiah 18:3-4)

At Revolution, this is Who We Are:

1.     We are Authentic.
2.     We are Passionate.
3.     We are Generous.
4.     We are Servants.
5.     We are Family.

He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. (James 1:18)
